Chart
Mixed Genre - D and T
This is the default Chart. It is a good place to start if you seek to sample how Technacy Genres become more demanding in design and innovation capabilities and in project expectations. The Mixed Genre chart offers a broad guide for Product Design & Technology subjects. More genre charts can be added by request through the CONTACTS tab.
Phases of Technacy Expectations and Complexity.
TECHNACY COMPLEXITY EXPECTATIONS are arranged in three broad PHASES (columns) to guide the Educator. They describe increasing exposure to contextual and systemic complexity of technological application.
read more ...Competent Phase
The COMPETENT phase of technacy development is identified by contextually relevant codified skills and knowledge.
read more ...Sophisticated Phase
The SOPHISTICATED phase of technacy development is identified by "the project's" high degree of complexity, high risk/high return scenario and/or expecting success at an extreme scale of application.
read more ...Emergent Phase
The EMERGENT phase of technacy development presents an early, developing or novice level of simple and tangible technology project activity. The learner encounters an aspect of at least one essential Technology Type or context of application that is novel to them.

Upper
The EMERGENT PIONEER is an 'enthusiastic beginner'. Identified by the lack of competence to apply in real time, any aspect of their ideas in a way that 'works' in an applied context for the purpose given.
...moreEarly
Identified by overtly expressing ideas through basic juxtapositions of concepts.
Distinguished trait: highly unlikley to be realised in the given paremetres of the project or learner's personal skills.
...moreEmergent Consolidation
Upper
The UPPER EMERGENT SKILLS can only be accessed via demonstrable and consistent achievements the UPPER EMERGENT PLAY phase of their development, where the demonstrated achievements presented evidence of relevant capabilities for the project task and context brief.
...moreEarly
The EARLY EMERGENT SKILLS phase is the typical preparatory phase of skill and knowledge development for learners who begin to identify basic ideas for combining of resoources towards production of objects or systemsThe Learner is expected to show principles of success based on understanding and i
...moreEmergent Play
Upper
The EMERGENT PLAY is the typical starting phase for any learner whose background is as a novice or as a 'sceptic/despondent beginner'
...moreEarly
EARLY EMERGENT PLAY includes dispondency or low interest to explore the qualities, functionality and properties of materials and tools including instruments and devices.
...moreCompetent Pioneer
Upper
The COMPETENT PIONEER phase of technacy development can only be accessed via 'at least' sufficient COMPETENT SKILLS development that is contextually relevant to the project task.
...moreEarly
Not consistently achieveing upper Competent pioneer outcomes, though demonstrating many of those outcomes through the course of the project.
...moreCompetent Consolidation
Upper
The COMPETENT SKILLS phase of development can only be accessed via demonstrable and consistent achievements in the EMERGENT SKILLS and/or the COMPETENT PLAY phases of their development, where the demonstrated achievements presented evidence of relevant capabilities for the project task and

Distinguishing feature: apprentice.
Formal vocational level education, or equivalent cultural peer review of accepted codified knowledge and techniques.
...moreCompetent Play
Upper
The UPPER COMPETENT PLAY can only be progressed via demonstrable and consistent achievements in the EARLY COMPETENT PLAY phases of development.
...moreEarly
The EARLY COMPETENT PLAY can only be progressed via demonstrable and consistent achievements in the EMERGENT PLAY phases of their development.
...moreSophisticated Pioneer
Upper
The SOPHISTICATED PIONEER phase of technacy development can only be accessed via demonstrable and consistent achievements in the UPPER COMPETENT PIONEER and/or the UPPER SOPHISTICATED SKILL CONSOLIDATION phases of a learner's development.
...moreEarly
Not consistently achieveing upper sophisticated pioneer outcomes, though demonstrating many of those outcomes through the course of the project.
...moreSophisticated Consolidation
Upper
The SOPHISTICATED SKILLS phase of technacy development can only be accessed via demonstrable and consistent achievement in the COMPETENT SKILLS phase of their development. Solutions to complex problems are based on known and consolidated competence or well codified methods.
...moreEarly
Not consistently achieveing upper sophisticated skill consolidation outcomes, though demonstrating many of those outcomes through the course of the project.
...moreSophisticated Play
Upper
The UPPER SOPHISTICATED PLAY phase can only be achieved via demonstrable and consistent outcomes in the EARLY SOPHISTICATED PLAY phase of development.
...moreEarly
Expected to show independently researched and produced detail of designs that have numerous contextual variables identified and also accommodated with an evidence base to justify all aspects of the design.
...moreDevelopment Domains of Innovation.
INNOVATION DOMAINS describe expectations in human innovation capability. They are arranged in three broad Levels (rows) to guide the Educator.
read more ...Play Domain
The PLAY domain of innovation describes the initial phase of exploratory engagement and foundations to innovation attribute and prowess expectations in technacy development. PLAY capability is relative to the dominant Technology Type and/or applied context being learned.
viewSkills Domain
The SKILLS domain of innovation describes the most common level of capability development by most people. This includes level of innovation attribute and prowess expectations in technacy development.
viewPioneer Domain
The PIONEER domain of innovation describes the highest, and most difficult to sustain, level of innovation attribute and prowess expectations in technacy development. PIONEER capability is relative to the dominant Technology Type and/or applied context being learned.
